Perpetuating Racism
November 27, 2007
Seriously, this is hung up in my educational institution. Before I get mail bombs, just let it be known that I have no qualms with black people, and I love to see them succeed, just as anyone else. But do we insist on discriminating between white and black accomplishments?
Instead of focusing so much attention on the things that black people have done, why not focus on the fact that we are equal, and can all honor any accomplishment from anyone of any color.
I realize the point of this poster. A black person is supposed to see it and think, “Hey I’m black, but so are all these people. Maybe I have a chance to do great someday too.” That’s the problem. This type of behavior is just a bandage covering up the fact that we are still trying to separate people. This is nothing but an inspirational poster made by someone who thinks they need it. Well I don’t think they need it. I think they all have the potential to be great people without it.
It’s this type of propaganda that perpetuates the black kid from needing these kinds of posters.

Unfortunately when you look at everyday life and the things that are shown to us all as important they have one nationality and that isn’t black. Everywhere blacks look they see white. Think of this for a moment, look at your television for 4 hours and count the number of whites then the number of blacks, keep in mind the things that each are doing. This will show you what blacks have to look forward to living in a white dominated society.
You not being black do not view life in the same way. You may want to say that “everyone” is equal yet they aren’t. The problem is that blacks are under represented in America in all facets of life. But since those in the majority do not notice all the things that focusing on their likeness yet notice anything that doesn’t nothing will be equal.

The point is equality…I have many African American friends and going to a high school that was half African American, i respect the history and the feelings of my friends…..what i don’t respect is something like this going up in a multi national college. What about the Asians? What about the Jewish? What about the people of India? Its obviously one sided and not fair to the rest of the college. You know damn well if that sign said “white miracles”,…i don’t even need to say it you know what would happen.
whAT Cockflavored said about equality is right. Thats what we need, EQUALITY and equality without having to force or put in measures to make this happen.

To theblacksentinel: Your point of view is 100% correct, and that’s the problem. When people turn on the TV people might see a white dominated industry. That’s the problem.
It’s not about being in the minority or majority, it’s about being human. We need to all embrace what every person other can do for each other regardless or race.
There’s nothing equal about putting up a sign that says, “Look here at what MY race has done.” It’s was an African-American group that put that up, and until they stop and realize that it’s not about them and us, then they themselves are perpetuating their own segregation.
A great man once wished that one day he would not be judged by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character. Yet today equality is being forced fed upon us, rather than taught and learnt. Look little Johnny, even black people can have nice jobs; of course affirmative action forces them to. Look little Johnny at all the hispanic people in college, of course minorities have lower acceptance and lower scholarship requirements.
Until we all try and start treating each others as equals, were at a standstill in terms of HUMAN rights (not minority rights).
and trust therealoe, he’s Mexican, he knows all about it.
Oh yea, and more about self-segregation, black people have their own national anthem????? Yea, I heard this at work one day and almost walked out, honestly.
I realize that the people who founded this country were eventually sold black slaves by other black people, but seriously? Can you not appreciate what AMERICANS (doesn’t matter what color) went through to found this country. Now I realize that whole time period is a sensitive issue; but to say, fuck your national anthem, we have our own, is a slap in the face to anyone who fought against any kind of persecution.

I hear ya when you say that we need to realize that it’s not us or them. Yet where is the realization from the others. Those advertisements and the television shows aren’t going to change themselves. We need to treat others as equals, that is the real deal like you were saying. Yet, why do people always want to subjugated to change it. They don’t hold the power, so why aren’t you on top of those in the industries that are showing the MOST bias. Why attack the little people on the bottom? Attack the people that are making it necessary to try and do whatever possible to show others and themselves that they matter.
Also, if Asians or anyone else feels subjugated and under represented then they should show others and themselves that they matter. Do you really think that if blacks just shut up and go along with the ride that somehow the majority white population is going to just up and say, wow we have been leaving these people out, lets change our ways? NO! Haven’t we been waiting for that for the last 400 years or so?
Also, the song is not a national anthem for blacks it is a song for black unity. Anyway, were the blacks included in the American national anthem or the constitution for that matter, NO. So why get so sensitive about it. You are doing a lot of focusing on the blacks as if it is their fault that they are being subjugated. Like I said focus on the BIG picture and not the small stuff that makes NO difference to how this country is run.
So, until the powers that be start looking at people as just that people, then maybe there will not be any need for blacks, Asians or whoever to do things for themselves.

The industries can’t be to blamed…well they can, but you basically have a bunch of greedy people who do whatever they will to make a dollar, ethically or not. If that means making a movie with a middle eastern terrorist, or a commercial with a rapping black guy, then that’s what they will do.
However, we give them the power to do that. If we no longer automatically associate these things, then they lose their meaning.
All I’m saying is that things are at a real stand still. For anything to happen, both people need to drop the gloves and accept each other. That means both sides not separating themselves from everyone else.
As far as blacks not being in the Star Spangled Banner or the constitution, if I know any better, I don’t think white people are in it either. I believe the Constitution starts, We the White People….wait, not that’s not it. Oh yea, it’s just We the People… The same goes for the Star Spangled Banner. It’s not about the American whites beating the English whites. It’s about freedom and liberty. The pursuit of happiness. These are fundamentals that all men can live by.
I don’t mind a song for unity, but when your uniting only part of the population, then it’s not really unity, its segregation. White people once united blacks in schools. I would just rather it not called your National Anthem. I personally think its very disrespectful.

Come on, you are giving one side a pass “it’s not their fault…” Yes it is and it is everyones fault who sits and says “oh, thats just the way it is…” If you want people to come together you need to think big. I am saying focus on the things that CAUSE people to feel a need for separation. Don’t just say hey you over there stop separating and the problem will fix itself.
And think about the constitution it was written at a time when blacks were considered NOT HUMAN. So when it says We the People, remember blacks were not considered people. So no the constitution nor the star spangled banner had anything to do with blacks.
Disrespectful, yeah right. Isn’t it disrespectful to subjugate and then malign an entire race then turn around and demand respect. Please. White people have segregated themselves from blacks since blacks were brought here. Then you want to turn around and tell the blacks to stop segregating. This sounds insane.
What I am saying is that you should be focusing on the hundreds of posters, advertisements, movies, television shows, companies and so much more which are still white oriented. This is disrespectful to assume that if blacks just ingratiate themselves into this system of disrespect and subjugation everything will somehow become even. This is the problem, people want minorities to just shut up and stop trying to differentiate themselves all the while the white race is differentiated with all the things in society aimed and geared toward them.

I never subjugated anyone.
edit:
wow dude, I just noticed that your icon is the black power symbol. Why…is that unity too?
TELL ME WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IS BETWEEN:
WHITE POWER, WHITE POWER….. and…
BLACK POWER, BLACK POWER
is…please.

Black power went hand in hand with the civil rights struggle it is a symbol of people trying to get EQUALITY. Which in itself is a form of power when it is kept from you by a self anointed elitist group. Black power is not about denying rights to anyone else or about hurting, maligning, discriminating or using racist behavior to achieve a goal of terror. That is the difference. White power is a symbol of hate, their is no need to show something that is seen in every aspect of everyones daily life.
Everything in the country is run from a white perspective, so show me where this black power has somehow tainted things. There is no black power, that is what blacks want. Power over their lives, their future and their identities. So far whites have used their power to tell us how to worship by denying us our original religion. How to speak by denying us our original language. What our heritage is by denying us the opportunity to identify with our ancestors. Try to do a ancestry search when your ancestors have been spread into the wind by all the slave selling and trading. We have NO ancestry to be traced.
White power is all about one person’s superiority over another. Based on Nazi principals and we know what they are. Now if one would like to say they have pride in being white, who can fault them, that should be natural. Yet blacks are made to feel embarrassed by their race due to the constant barrage of negatives from the white majority. So, in order to counter that behavior blacks are uplifting other blacks with black power. What exactly is white power doing to uplift other whites? And uplift them from what?
You never subjugate anyone? By allowing yourself to benefit from white privilege subjugates others. By sitting back and just letting the status quo of white privilege continue, the subjugation of other will continue. So sure you subjugate people by participating in a system that is unequal and skewed to the advantage of people like yourself.

I hardly think anyone is denying anyone right to practice their own religion. And go ahead and speak Swahili, or any of the 1000 other tribal languages, but honestly, I don’t think you’ll get your McDonalds order correct when you start clicking in the middle of ordering a Big Mac.
Where has Black Power become wrong? Because maybe you associate it with some things, but not all. My girlfriend is a teacher. One day a black 3rd grader hit a white student for no reason, then raised his arm and started chanting “Black Power!” Do you honestly think this kid has any idea what his ancestors went through? No way dude. All he knows is that he’s black, and he’s supposed to not like white people, and that Black Power is what it’s all about. For some it may be about equality, but for the most, it’s not.
And white privileges? How’d you know about the special gas pumps we use to get $0.10 off our gas?
oooooo and then there’s this. By the way…. my great-grandfather is an actual wet back; as in he swam the Rio Grande to get to Texas. My grandfather picked pickles here in Ohio before learning English.

Wow, you’ve gotten even more silly as this dialog has gone along. I am sure you can pick out more than one case where some uneducated person does something and screams black power, does that then mean that is what it is all about, of course not.
And if you are going to sit here and pretend that white privilege is not a fact then you are just plain blind. If there is no white privilege then why is there a wage gap between whites and blacks all things being equal of 58%? Why is there still discrimination. That is white privilege. It doesn’t mean there is some sort of sinister little gas pump where whites get free or reduced gas. It is subtle which means that you will be given more chances, offers and other things simply from being white.
Have you never heard that whites are 40% more likely than their black counter part to get a home loan even though their credit is exactly the same. Blacks are more likely to have a higher interest rate than their white counter part. But, I guess this isn’t white privilege, we will just call it a few stupid people who happen to operate businesses all over the US. No, I will call it what it is white privilege.
Wow, so you know a real minority, your grandfather. Anyway, blacks and other minorities can have white mindsets. That means they think just like the majority who don’t mind white privilege and feel that the status quo is just fine by them. And how do you know what that little kid was thinking. And how do I even know if that story is true, not that I care. It is just more propaganda. If I hear a story, yet no real proof, then of course black power means something sinister. Next you will tell me that a black person did something bad under the guise of civil rights, it is horrible as well.
No thanks, keep your propaganda and believe what you want. But, until you stop being closed minded and actually take a look at the big picture you are just adding to the problems of America.

Also, when I was talking about blacks language being taken etc. I meant slavery or did you think they just let the slaves speak a language that the master couldn’t understand? That could lead to a revolt that the masters wouldn’t see coming. Haven’t you ever seen the movie roots? Goodness this is just common knowledge. They didn’t allow the slaves to speak whatever language they were accustomed to nor did they have a chance to since they were put with other slaves that did not speak the same dialect. They forced the African slaves into Christianity when they were not Christians, and I don’t know how you take it but that to me is denying them their right to practice religion (that wasn’t part of the masters).
They also denied them the right to know their ancestors when they broke up families and kept slaves for so long that they no longer had any idea where they came from. They also were forced to assimilate into a new race, so wouldn’t that be denying them the right to their own heritage etc.
So, you can be funny all you like. But, all it shows is disdain, disrespect and contempt and all these things breed racism. So, you might want to rethink your position on the pains of my ancestors since I highly doubt if they nor I find anything that happened to them funny.
