Quick Vent
January 7, 2008
The January 6th edition of the Toledo Blade had this comment to the editor:
Danger of smoking doesn’t compare The driver who caused the tragic crash on Dec. 30 that wiped out a family was allowed to legally drink in Ohio bars but not smoke because smoking is a danger to the innocent. Perhaps we need to reconsider our priorities. Delmer O. Gasche Wauseon
My “to be” response
According to the American Cancer Society 44,000 people die a year from tobacco use in the US alone. This is almost the same amount of deaths from all traffic accidents combined; 40% of which are alcohol related.
Before you try to use such a tragic accident like this to your own personal agenda, try putting things in perspective first. By the way, only 20% of people in the US smoke, what percentage of people like to enjoy public places?
I was going to write a letter back, but realized the wording was a little to angry to get printed.
