TheRealOE custom guitar – Part one (the body)

I want to continue on from my radio shack rant, but instead I will discuss what I am constructing, what i like to call “therealoe custom”

I will be starting with a base 1996 50th anniversary edition Squier stratocaster, bullet series, made in the country that owns our ass.  For those of you not familiar with a 50th anniversary, ill break it down for you.  It has a full thickness 1 3/4″ body, 22 fret neck, and nut width @ 1 11/16″.  The specs are “full” and not typical of what other Bullets are and this is similar to the Fender American strat neck. You can actually use an F-Spaced pickup at the bridge and the poles will actually line up perfect with the strings.  (for those who have bought f-spaced pickups for a squier strat before and realized you are a complete dumbass.) You can find some of these at a pawn shop under 100 bones. NOT YOUR AVERAGE  SQUIER STRAT.  I have a fender strat, but i actually like the feel of this Bullet Squier I am modding much better.  More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squier_Bullet

I am not sure if I am going to repaint.  I like the wear marks and cracks it already has.  The white color looks good under the black pickguard anyway.

Pickups will be in a H-H config using a Dimarzio coil tapping 5-way switch and dimarzio pickups.

One volume, one tone, and one veritone. (more info in part 2)

As for the tuners, I am looking to get fender locking tuners with the black oxide coating to match the pickguard.

Strings: Ernie ball custom 2221′s (10-13-17-26-36-46)

Knob covers: color will most likely be that plastic chrome color, just because I already have them in stock if you will.

PART2: the guts and tones…the varitone!

Review of Radio Shack – Set of 100 Disc Capacitors

So im working on another guitar project and I head to The Shack to get some parts and switches and bitches.  I come across the set of 100 ceramic disc capacitors and I was like “sweet, 100 capacitors for 4.99″.  They are not really labeled well, so of course I have to get a mulimeter to read all the values…and what do i find?  All values are in the pF range.  WTF???  I need them to be in the uF range.  I mean have you ever heard a guitar tone with a .0047pf capacitor?  Well I have.  It sounds like a dead whore.
Cons: Shitty selection, Very tiny values
Best Uses:  target practice
Describe Yourself: Casual User
Primary use: Personal
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about RadioShack Set of 100 Disc Capacitors:

(number of pcs, value)
1, 103
4, 561 1kv
1, 561
7, 221
5, 151
5, 68
2, 15
61, 10 (61 pcs? really???)
5, 7
10, 1

Bottom Line: Just a bunch of 10pf. Where the hell do you use 10pf?
For those of you who didn’t count, that’s 101 worthless pieces. i was unable to use any of them. if all 101 capacitors were connected in parallel they would have a grand total capacitance of .016115 uf.

EPIC FAIL!

Chucks – Toledo, OH

Chucks Bar, located on Monroe just east of Secor is a place that I have many memories with. The place used to be dive; really dive. We used to frequent the place, addicted to the signature shot of a particular bartender there: More than a Mouthful. The shot was all booze, and so many different types that at least 4 needed to be ordered (no problem). I’ve offered my share of vomit to that establishments sewer.

The menu was simply sandwiches and lots of fried foods. While the fare was standard and greasy, it was expected, and enjoyed. Some two (three, four maybe) years ago Chucks underwent a huge renovation. The bathroom went from a two seater with no doors to a place that I expected a servant shower me in expensive fragrances. The slab of wood that they called a bar was replaced by a fancy schmancy “real” bar. The managers: gone. The Chucks that was essentially our “first” dive bar was gone as we knew it.

We stopped going. The crowd got bigger…and weirder. But I digress. I happened to stumble there for lunch today, and was…pleasantly surprised. While I’m told that the menu does feature some rather mundane food, my burger was done nicely.

Chucks Burger/Fries

Chucks Burger/Fries

The burger was a 1/2 lb patty that had the characteristic smell and texture of a flame grilled piece of meat. It was seasoned nicely, and the sandwich came with onion, tomato and Bibb lettuce (Bibb, really? ooo la la). The fries weren’t as good. They were handcut and cooked perfectly, fluffy in the middle and crispy on the outside. However, the heavy-handing of their seasoning salt really kinda ruined them.

Either way, the total including tip for this lunch was just over $7, but expect to pay a dollar or two more for any other sandwich. The portion was just right for lunch. Lunch was pretty speedy and the place had a decent lunch crowd.

All in all, it’s a good place for lunch. The lights behind the bar are pretty annoying, but those are annoying even when there drinking. Definitely stop in and see what you think.

Quick Thoughts

So, sadly, I’m sitting here on a Friday night drinking by myself watching movies (currently Max Payne). Anyways, I have a few thoughts.

  • Ludacris is a HORRIBLE actor. What’s with the fag-stache dude?
  • Elijah Craig Kentucky Bourbon is one of the most unbelievable bargains exist; ever. Fantastic.
  • Apocolypto still might be the best movie I’ve ever seen.
  • My balls….are enormous. Hi mom.

By the way mom, hope you like my Obama cartoon you crazy liberal bastard.

p.s. Max Payne…not a great movei. It’s a very predicatable action flick and marginal acting that only suceedes because of decent action and a pretty sweet sound track.

Celebration of Earth Day

“I have been celebrating earth day for months by releasing obscene amounts of methane gas into the atmosphere.  Although as my concern for the environment drops every day i am starting to contemplate starting to not only produce methane but also burn it.  I am envisioning something similar to the attached picture but more horizontal and being located not far behind me.   I think that is the real problem with the environment…if we got rid of Taco Bell I could see a 50% drop in methane production.  If i had more time and/or actually cared i would investigate further.  Unfortunately I will have to assume that my contributions to the destruction of the ozone will be enough and just be content with that.”

I just deleted a comment that linked to a page with a virus. If you do navigate to a page that has a pop-up that asks you if you want to navigate away, make sure to click the X to close the window. DO NOT click OK or cancel, either of those could install the virus.

Just a heads up.

Limited Government?

As the years go by, government seems to get bigger and bigger. Why does the government feel the need to have control over everything and everyone?

I believe that limited governments allow for free market competition and personal choices. This leads to a rise in the standard of living, lower government spending and increased trade. Along with this comes freedom. The same freedom that our founding fathers wanted for us. Freedom to me is the granted opportunity to be successful and to have the opportunity to make mistakes and learn from them. This is what was meant by constitutional definition of freedom and equality. Everyone has the same right to this freedom as anyone else. This is NOT freedom and equality defined by our current administration.

I understand that the tail end of the Bush administration has just as much to do with expanding government as Barry does, but we need to turn this around.

I mean what happened to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? We should never compromise these basic rights for “an easier path”!

Think for yourself, Question authority….
